All about the anticipation

Now that the clock updating is complete, I see how my life gets altered. I wanted to sleep until noon. It’s now 7 p.m.; still bright outside and I haven’t started supper. Bedtime will be here before I’m ready. Could we start again, please. I’m willing to go back to a simpler time, when a clock depended on church bells for a weekly time check. Not sure how that worked, actually. Weren’t all the locals in church? Who set the clocks? Did cows rule the earth?

A step towards meltdown?

I am SO confused. On what grounds do sane people elect a known drug dealer to be (potentially) the next premier of a large province? The votes are in, and our neighbours to the west have done the crazy dance. With the south and the west taken, I have a choice between open water to the east or a long trek to the pole going north.

Dodgy driving

From now on, when I need a phrase to describe dodgy driving in the winter, I’ll use “only two hours from town”. Covering a multitude of conditions, and drivers. Like that guy in the truck that went sideways each time he accelerated. Or the “Star Wars” light show whenever high beams were required.

Real world vs fantasy

Sometimes, even great music can’t save a movie from its own inherent crappiness. Case in point, the third chapter of the Pitch Perfect series.  I watched, and then I went on with my life. After searching out the specs on a really expensive microphone, but that’s another tale.

Wish I could vote

American Idol is back, soon. With new judges, but a similar format to ‘the old show’, it should provide an alternative to the endless hockey playoffs. Go ahead. Try to convince me that watching the permutations of branch offices “playing off” in a large American corporation is more entertaining than seeing people who really think they can sing.

Trying to learn during down time

As the neighbour wobbles toward a new round of “protectionist policies”, I’m unsure of the motive. Or the outcome. I understand the basic premise, where if someone is selling you stuff cheaply, you throw in a penalty clause (called a tariff). Here’s the catch; unless you also fix your local prices, the business world just ups everything (inside and outside your wall) to profit from your policy. In the end, the consumer loses.

The robot and I

The wonder of bread; I’m back in like with my personal kitchen robot, who can turn a bag of flour into deliciousness. Sure, some time and electricity are involved, but that’s the modern take on a process that goes back to the  dusty corner of history.

A quick course in famous faces

I wonder who will win? Tonight, the world of cinema recognizes its own, and gives the rest of us a glimpse of how we might (walk, talk, dress)  if we were famous.

An original artefact

I admit it. I’m a sucker for artefacts. History, not just an interpretation in a book. Happily, stuff doesn’t wear out (in every case), and for the last few months I’ve been treated to old family photos, old family documents, old… as we put together a local history text.

Not even real coffee

Spent a few minutes in the wonderful world of Jer In His Car.  Not the real name of the show, of course. In truth, I’m not even sure they had real coffee. This is the world of TV, and all of the coffee was wonderful, episode after episode. That’s not even plausible. I say that as a purist, who pulls his own shots in the kitchen and then rarely touches the stuff outside of my comfort zone.
