Let the rubber meet the road

Can you feel my pain? No? You are among the fortunate. I’ve got aches where I didn’t know aches were an option. This was tire-changing day. Outside. In and on the gravel. With a simple screw-jack provided by the car manufacturer (no luxury there). On the good side, we only swap the tires twice a year; I now have a whole summer and fall to recuperate.

Solve for all unknown variables

After a quick find and fix, this afternoon, I realize that my work skills are still relevant. How else (and who else) will my family call when they can’t get their email?

Deadline stress

Had to happen, eventually. Using DNA to solve a crime. But a sample from someone else? They didn’t use that plot twist in the TV version. In California, a mass murderer has been tracked down and arrested, after the police went into the archives of a genealogy firm that collects and analyzes your spit for “who you have as a cousin”  (it’s a thing, OK).

Talent from beneath the radar

Finally. I put on my shorts and tee, left the shoes where they belonged (in the bottom of the closet) and headed out onto the deck. With a push of the button, the BBQ returned to active service. My first steaks of the summer; it may only be April, but I have to push this envelope.

Can I buy the reputation, at that price?

Someone pointed out the ad, on a realtor’s page. For the asking price of a half-million, you can be the owner of a small restaurant in a small village. The location, on the only highway passing through, is easy to find (even in a raging snowstorm). The menu is popular. But then another question moves to the front of my mind.

The non-licensed license

When dealing with computers, assume nothing. Let me rephrase that; when dealing with computer users, assume nothing. There. We can go forward.

A true tell-tale of spring

Going right past the traditional tell-tales of spring (certain birds, pussy willows, cattails) and pointing out the important signals; one of the Island golf courses opened today. I can’t imagine that the greens are green, or that the fairways are fair, but for those with the addiction to flogging this is a true sign that winter is over. Sure, we might get the odd flurry, or ice on the windshield. Doesn’t matter.

Roll it uphill

There. I finally rolled the table uphill, and now I won’t have to think about it again until the end of the summer. May that be a long and glorious period. The BBQ has a new tank of C3H8 (a throwback to my periods in senior chemistry). Not much else to do, except to find some steaks and start the sacrificial meals.

Escape from debt through death

This afternoon, I called winter’s bluff. After a session of uphill lifting, the deck furniture is back in place. Except for the table; getting it down for the winter was easy. I just let it slide down the slope. The return trip is good for two people, as I don’t need to pull a knee or shoulder just as the weather is getting better. Tomorrow?

So pumped

Despite the fragility of a plastic panel, I was not deterred with my most recent project. A slip of the hand, a nod to gravity and hard surfaces; the end piece for my new audio player cracked. But, hey. We have plastic cement for plastics, right? Just a matter of trial and error, to find out which tube works with an unidentified variety of polycarbonate
