Two weeks now, we’ve condensed the mid-week Idol moments into a couple of hours of intense concert. Good way of doing things, from where I sit. The advertising would not have added anything to the experience. Plus, seeing twelve performers at a time gives a sense of who is suited for the role of AI, where your moment of fame will last about that long, unless you have something better than average.

With a sense of relief, I heard the motor start, and the small pump simply moved all the excess water away; out of sight, therefore out of mind. This is my first home with a sump system in a long time, and any hole that mysteriously fills and empties is disconcerting.

Sometimes, the only way to react is to shake your head and move along. I mean, there’s silly and then there’s downright stupid. Particularly with respect to government decisions.

A long weekend is hard on the spirit. Makes the calendar skip a step. That’s why, just after dawn, I was charging through the drifting snow in a mix of PJs and winter clothes, dragging huge blue plastic bags full of recycled milk cartons out to the the edge of the road. Our best garbage gets picked up once per month; if you miss the date, the pile grows anew. Happily, I was ahead of the truck (but not by much).

In the absence of a functional (and dependable) time machine, I’ve settled for second best. Over the last hour or so, I have been immersed in the industrial history of the town where I went to high school. And, of course, cut my teeth in the workforce.

I’ve stayed close to home, all day today. Waiting for a delivery (that hasn’t arrived). Not of much interest, to anyone. What’s odd is that I’ve been “tracking” this particular box, using the fine state-of-the-art tools provided by a very large firm. I’m sure they know their business, much better than most.

For the last twenty-four hours, I’ve had an unexpected PND. Let’s hope that tomorrow is a better day. Otherwise: no, I don’t have a long range plan for this one.

I love when new equipment marries with traditional technique, and life goes on. The weather this afternoon, flawless, reminded us that we had purchased newfangled snowshoes at another point in our lives, and that mine were still sealed in the original packaging, with the original tags. No more excuses accepted.
