Left by the wayside
Two weeks now, we’ve condensed the mid-week Idol moments into a couple of hours of intense concert. Good way of doing things, from where I sit. The advertising would not have added anything to the experience. Plus, seeing twelve performers at a time gives a sense of who is suited for the role of AI, where your moment of fame will last about that long, unless you have something better than average.
And that was the point of the show, this last two weeks. Along with the solo performances, which simply confirm the premise, bringing back (in total) twelve people who made it through the grinder and turned their talent into something that sells was really something.
Let’s face it, few people ever get the tag of “A Name” in the music industry. Seeing Haley Reinhart, Kellie Pickler, David Cook, Chris Daughtry, Jordin Sparks… I’m not going to recall all of the others without the help of Google. Neat, musically.
The loss of some really talented newbies is also part of the game. This two week blitz cost ten voices. Gone. Off to find an alternate career path. From this point forward, we switch from auditions to “left by the wayside”, one or two per week, until the show wraps in a couple of months.
The real lesson, for the rest of us, is that there are thousands and thousands of individuals who never get their moment on a TV show, but who have something great to offer audiences. The next time someone sings in your presence, stop (talking) and listen. Please. You may be in the room with something special.
