Watching the water just go away

posted in environment |

With a sense of relief, I heard the motor start, and the small pump simply moved all the excess water away; out of sight, therefore out of mind. This is my first home with a sump system in a long time, and any hole that mysteriously fills and empties is disconcerting.

It’s just by chance that I happened to be “there”. With a meeting going on upstairs, I had chosen to repair to the basement, where the wifi was fine and the junk food was close at hand. An opportunity to do some research on family history, rather than listen to the TV. The dog wouldn’t come down, but son #3 lives here; this is akin to going visiting one of the kids. And so passed the evening.

One moment of distress, when my spectacles were lost to view – the couch cover provides camo, if you will. I had to circle back several times, which elicited a round of giggles from the kid…

One gain from my intrusion into his space: we’re going to try completing the drywall seam filling, ourselves. Despite putting word out that there was a paying job at the new house, there were no takers. Real carpenters don’t “do” mud, it seems. The duty is back in my/our hands, which means that YouTube College is back in session.

And to think that I had dreams (delusions) of simply papering over the  whole affair and then painting my way to success. Guess I’m going to accept that some jobs can’t be avoided. Hey, maybe mudding can be a fun exercise.
