From the craft fair, treasures

I had hinted that today would be a great day for shopping. In the city… but we didn’t go. By mid-afternoon, an alternative came up.

A salute to limited vocabulary

In keeping with the “I can’t believe I…” meme, I’ve watched all three of the “Who wants to be a president?” debates. Last evening, I learned that democracy only works when the involved parties want it to; right now, we don’t know if the distinction between “I won” and “I lost” will be respected. On a similar note, Twitter has found a new way to salute the limited vocabulary of one debater: #TrumpBookReports

A path along an old road

Against all odd, the summer stretches on. Here we are, late into autumn, with the temperature peaking at 23C this afternoon, leaving us with no (rational) choice but to get out and explore. Follow new roads.

On loan

My first visit to a public library happened in the early part of the ’60s; I was so impressed that I’ve never stopped making periodic visits to whatever branch happened to be closest to my reading nook. Seriously. Hard to argue with the fundamental concept of books, for free.

Refreeze and reheat is not reflavour

Trying to put a positive spin on my supper choice. Reheated pizza. The freezer bundles are small, and they’re almost all gone.

Back-road traffic

To my surprise, the roads on a Sunday afternoon are very busy. Not highways here; back roads. Dirt roads, through the woods. We spent the afternoon out there, and we found ourselves, over and over again, “scrunching up” against the hedgerow, or backing up to the nearest wide spot.

Off to explore

A new first on my list, today. We were off to join our “breakfast club”, like most other weekends, and we ate a standard kind of meal… or at least I did. On the other side of the table, only coffee. Anyhow, when the meal ended, I headed off to exercise the car dog. Back in the car, we headed out to explore back roads. The Glen, etc.

The gadget was not exactly dead

Not much of novelty here. I skipped the grocery run to Montague, unwilling to get involved in taking too many vegetables as hostages. The dog stayed by my side, asleep. Finally, I headed for the basement, intent on solving a technical mystery.

The affirmation of a generation

Call it the affirmation of a generation: Bob Dylan is now the Nobel Laureate in Literature. I’m willing to bet that nobody saw that one coming.

Slightly soaked, or something more

For over a decade, I’ve logged into my administrator pages (here) using SSL. Supposed to make a difference, although some things are done more as an act of faith. Anyhow, the system worked; until this morning. Suddenly, an error screen, showing that the site I was trying to access might not be, well, here. I looked, and then I called up the support system at the host provider.
