From the craft fair, treasures

posted in economy |

I had hinted that today would be a great day for shopping. In the city… but we didn’t go. By mid-afternoon, an alternative came up.

In Souris, a crafts fair, with the quasi-totality of the stock coming from “across the seas”. I’m unsure of the history behind the committee, but we were able to check out products from what some refer to as “third world”. Goods produced, one at a time, by a person who invested much more than raw materials and a few minutes on an assembly line.

Obviously, I couldn’t buy everything that caught my attention. Among the goods chosen to make the trip back to the house were a nightlight (or a vase..), a keyfob and some chocolate. Here: nightlight

keyfob

As for the chocolate, I haven’t figured out about adding taste and smell to this post…

There were other treasures that came home, as well. Not my duty to mention what others buy. In the end, you’ll note the absence of plastic, and a sense of recycling that is rarely found in our larger box stores. Perhaps a part of the money we spent will actually make it into the pockets of the artisans.

We can always go to the city; a craft market comes (maybe) once a year. Our time and money were fairly traded.

Supposed to be in for a night of heavy rain, although I doubt it will match the weekend earlier in the month. I’m fortunate to live on “higher ground”, and the waters will flow downhill to the seas.
