The gadget was not exactly dead

posted in technology |

Not much of novelty here. I skipped the grocery run to Montague, unwilling to get involved in taking too many vegetables as hostages. The dog stayed by my side, asleep. Finally, I headed for the basement, intent on solving a technical mystery.

I have a gadget, which when it works will “change” the sound of an amplified instrument. You know, guitars and such. When I turned on the power switch yesterday, all I got as output was the company logo on the LCD screen. Now, this told me that the device wasn’t “dead” exactly. I changed the battery, without any improvement.

Then, I Googled the problem (because that’s what we do, nowadays), and learned that there was no reset button. However, there was a USB port to allow modifying the software load. Took me a few minutes to find a cable and install the goods from the firm’s download page. When all came together, the device suddenly showed a whole other personality. In layman’s terms, it had frozen, and I simply thawed things out.

Back to the basement, and I now have all kinds of options available. Won’t improve my guitar technique, but at least I’ve got reason to experiment.

Have to get my social skills restarted, as we have an invitation to go out for a dinner party. That will be two times inside of the week, and my head is just “spinning” with all this change in routine. Must be on my best behavior, as it may also involve my accepting to make music as well as witty conversation.
