Back when my life was under the thumb of a dictatorial alarm clock, breaking my sleep pattern was not done. Not on purpose, at least. There were emergencies, and interruptions, but usually I began and ended the sleep period in concert with my working life.

Someone, during an online lecture, said that astronomy is (perhaps) the only science based on observation instead of experimentation. I’ll accept that. Today, the news proudly informed us that today had a trifecta for skywatchers: an eclipse, an equinox and a “supermoon”. I saw none of the above. Blind faith required.

Said with an optimistic voice, the phrase is wonderful. Warming, even. Here, try it: “Tomorrow is the first day of Spring!” If you pay no attention to the view from the nearest window, all is good. Actually, back three months ago, winter hadn’t really started either. Maybe we’re in a world with the equivalent of “seven second delay.

Too much time to ponder the possibilities. Or the weather. Granted, this year, watching the prevarications (lovely word, that) of nature has been better than a good movie. Who would have thought that seeing a snow plow in action could be such fun?

Faced with a request for something different on the menu, I decided to go with a standard. Ribs. No matter that it takes a whole afternoon to do the job properly; that’s what I had available on the timeline. I decided to go outside my comfort zone and purchase the meat from a local butcher shop. Bit more expensive, balanced by much better quality. Home to heat the oven and then let the combination of low heat and slow time work the magic. It did.

The Canadian version of “bad monetary policy” is clear to all this week. In the face of one of the worst winters on record (at least in the east), our dollar is trading at recent lows. Keep that in mind, when you dream of a vacation in the sunny, warm south. I guess it is time to revive the plan for adding an eleventh province, in the Caribbean.

In the heat of the moment (or the warmth; all is relative), my decision seemed logical. I had a bag of kitchen scraps to take out to the dumpster, and the snow storm was raging. A compromise was reached, with the bag carefully placed, outside, near the door. Later on, I could get dressed properly and head around into the wind.

Stayed up past my usual bedtime, last evening. With only the dog to share my TV tastes, I opted for a screening of Django Unchained, and found that the particular mix of talent made for a much better experience than expected. Let’s face it, Tarentino has been spreading the (fake) blood around for a long time, and few others in Hollywood have the same knack for over the top gore. As an integral part of the plot line, of course.

I’ve been watching some educational material on TV; the program is “The Science Of Stupid”. In retrospect, thankfully my experimental period of life (roughly corresponding to high school daze) had a limited budget.

Well, that’s disconcerting. The blog server is unavailable right now, and all I can do is play the patience card. I’ll write offline, and hope (to the point of desperation) that things will come back online before long. This sort of glitch in the fabric of my universe doesn’t happen often, or I’d be looking for a new hosting site. My loyalty only goes so far.
