A small taste of Pi

Time to “bake” a Pi, so to speak. I received my new Raspberry Pi about a week back, and remained patient. Had to wait for the case, camera and a larger SD card to arrive in the postbox. Now, with the various components in hand, I’d run out of reasons to delay any longer.

Do you see what I see?

Another cold winter day. Or, how I spent hours warming a chair in a waiting area. Mix and match.

Yesterday, the “clinic” called; a chance to fit me in with the specialist. In a world of socialized medicine (as in, I don’t really know how much it actually costs), there’s no thought of refusing such an offer. I arose with the sun, prepared myself mentally and physically, and then made my way to the frigid bus stop. Just like the good old days.

You can’t always get what you want

Another day in the life of a MOOC student. It actually feels comfortable, this donning a virtual hoodie and hanging in the back of a virtual classroom, listening to lectures by a real prof. At least, I can see his face, even though the other students remain imaginary. Working through a unit in music history, studying the classics from a half century ago. The Stones rocked!

Make the case fit

Time was, I might have rushed to get as much of a project completed (in a short time) as possible. Now, the projects are stretched out to fit the time available. Subtle explanation for this new lifestyle. In brief terms, I don’t have to go to bed until I want to.

Need some calculus skills

We continue to stumble forward, knowing that someday we will have “the house we want”. Larger than needed, perhaps. More expensive than rational thought would choose, inevitably. The plan must include living for a very long time.

Gaga, unmasked and unplugged

Based on several news stories, repeated commercials and an easy-to-locate website, it seems that I’m part of a group that will be richer than before. Relatively. A class action suit involving Canadians that purchased devices containing computer memory some years ago has come back with an award. As a result, we’re all getting $20 in the mail. From where I sit, it might be hard to find a Canadian that doesn’t qualify.

Gently mauled by a loving mutt

Time to sort the photo library. I’ve been remiss, the last couple of years, and now the collection is split into several repositories. Out of sight, out of mind; until I want to show a particular image to someone else, and can’t figure out why I’m unable to find what my mind sees.

Frozen meals at the right time and price

It’s a given; you can produce most meals, in your own kitchen, for less than the retail price point. Most homebodies work for slave pay rates, after all. However, I’m willing to admit when I find a deal on something. I’m willing to buy that deal if there are enough nickels left in the back pocket. Today’s mention: frozen lasagna, big enough for three, for a penny under six dollars. No need to thaw first. The oven will do the dirty.

Ready to report

Should the revenue arm of the state happen to wonder, I now have the reporting software for my income taxes, purchased and installed. I happened along when prices were down, and although I believe the package should be free to that small percentage of citizens that actually pay, some things aren’t meant to be. At least I saved about 25%.

We don’t do war movies the way we used to

After watching the new spy/saboteur pilot (X Company) on CBC last evening, I realize that we just don’t “do” war movies the way we used to. Too much attention to the uniforms; too little to the technology.
