Proof that I’m easily entertained (or lethargic): the TV is tuned to a documentary on the life of pigeons. In summary, the difference between rollers and tumblers is still not clear. And I am older, by an hour.

I shall not complain about how much snow fell. After seeing the reports from Buffalo, where better than 2 meters has fallen in 3 days, I know when someone else owns the bragging rights. Pity the poor dog that tries to find a place to play (or spray). Pity the people who own a shovel and not much else.

Strange climate moment. I awoke, suddenly; the gust of wind had me wondering if we’d just had a tiny tremor. By the time I went downstairs, the anemometer showed a misleading 0 (as in zero. Dead calm). Turns out that a heavy snowfall had frozen things temporarily, although another gust shook the mechanics enough that we were back into recording mode shortly after. A downtime of eleven hours, according to the stats page. Enough snow came down to break one shovel, which means that winter may be here for the next few months.

Just like every other time: the first real snowfall of the year sends local drivers into a tailspin. You know folks, that provincial law requiring snow tires to be installed before mid-December is designed to keep you safe until global warming is completely irreversible. Yes, my tires are on. Yea, I’m a little smug about that.

Quiet day here. Had to change a light bulb in the dining room.
Some days don’t offer much “material”. I do watch the news; even there, the pickings meagre. Did you know that the local rail bridges all need to be painted? Do you care? How about a broken water main? To be fair, unless my tap suddenly developed drought, I wouldn’t either. Hard to sell newspapers with material like this. I have a subscription, but even that may lapse in a month or two.

I get it. Somebody started humming a ditty about it being “time for a change”, and it was all downhill from there. This afternoon, my football team, undefeated in Seventy Consecutive Home Games, lost. By three points (essentially a missed field goal, because a sack had shifted the line of scrimmage about four yards too far). And so ended the season. University Football players don’t get to play golf as a consolation prize. They simply continue on with their courses.

According to the various videos on safe clothes dryer installation (YouTube, You Rock!), there is a type of air ducting that is risky. As in, “hey, your house just burned down” risky. Imagine my surprise when I happened to be in the box store and discovered that the ONLY type of solution they sell looked just like the ducting the videos were so dunning about. Yes, I mentioned to the clerk that there was risk in every box. He wants to go and run his own tests… Won’t change the buying practices of a national chain, but he might save one house.

Had to be proactive this morning; there was no more milk on hand, and that means coffee just won’t go down (for some). And it isn’t as simple as that old song about “a spoonful of sugar”. Didn’t people care about good nutrition back then?

Where we live, the health system “belongs” to the government. Lock, stock and barrel. The quality of care is good. However, in a non-emergency situation, don’t expect speed. The doctors and nurses are busy, and you can have a chair, over there, for as long as you need it. A typical day, from where I sat, involves an appointment at 11h00 and an actual consultation at 18h00. In between, amuse yourself as best you can.

In education, there is an artificial horizon. Above, the theoretical and below, the practical. Right now, I’m planning a house, while someone else is actually taking care of the construction. I’m left with the “detailing”.
