Shrinking newspapers
Quiet day here. Had to change a light bulb in the dining room.
Some days don’t offer much “material”. I do watch the news; even there, the pickings meagre. Did you know that the local rail bridges all need to be painted? Do you care? How about a broken water main? To be fair, unless my tap suddenly developed drought, I wouldn’t either. Hard to sell newspapers with material like this. I have a subscription, but even that may lapse in a month or two.
Speaking of the daily newspaper, I’d love to pull out a copy from the last century. Not sure my kids can picture the oversized pages, or the sheer pile of newsprint we used to receive. Even better, how about one of those Sunday editions from New York, with the expensive watch ads. Another era.
I just added an app, from the parent company of my local newspaper. Free. Full colour. Hyperlinked. Did I mention free? Pretty hard to imagine the paper version holding up against that, especially when you can get the tablet for free if you commit to the paper version in its final times. And the app sometimes has expensive watch ads…
Pardon my pause… The dog just came in from a tour outside. He’s smart enough to bump the door to see it will swing in his favour; if not, one of the trained humans in his pack will assist. Still hasn’t mastered unsnapping his leash, but he’s patient. I wonder how we’ll adapt (our collective behavior), once the move occurs?
