Shiny hoses

posted in technology |

According to the various videos on safe clothes dryer installation (YouTube, You Rock!), there is a type of air ducting that is risky. As in, “hey, your house just burned down” risky. Imagine my surprise when I happened to be in the box store and discovered that the ONLY type of solution they sell looked just like the ducting the videos were so dunning about. Yes, I mentioned to the clerk that there was risk in every box. He wants to go and run his own tests… Won’t change the buying practices of a national chain, but he might save one house.

I actually went in to buy washer hoses. With washers. Language lacks precision. The hoses are shiny (braided stainless steel). Should the new washer come with its own rubber, I can put them aside for the day when torture is on the list of things to do.

As of today, my vacation (practice…) is over, and my job for the last three decades is part of my past. Mixed emotions.

We called to find out where our house “is”. The foundation hole is dug, and the two halves of my habitat should cross the bridge next week. I’ll wait for confirmation, but things sound promising. No need to brave the sudden onset of winter just yet.

After getting several precisions on other details, we headed over to a local appliance outlet and ordered the final piece of the puzzle (for the kitchen). A combined rage hood/microwave. At a great price. The minor disadvantage of delivering the device across three provinces is part of the fun. I really am a “glass half full” kind of guy!
