In the aftermath of a fire sale

When friends suggest that you stop by and see the new house, it’s just something you do. When they take out a full page advertisement, in colour no less, it’s a little over the top. When you count the local electronics box store among friends, no comment is needed.

Training with a flavour

Odd training session at work today. Offered as a freebie by a company that sells us gear, we learned that a lot of our equipment was obsolete and due for replacement. For the remainder of our stuff, there were firmware updates available, as long as our service contract was in order. And yes, there were substantial fees for both the service contract and the updates. As for actual training, not so much.

A good beat and you can dance to it

Yesterday, I remembered going dancing. Today, I salute the passing of the man that taught America to dance. Dick Clark is gone.

We were just Staying Alive

For the last hour, I’ve been distracted. Musically. The gang on Glee decided to time warp, back to 1975. And I had experience.

Under cover of darkness

I tried. I lasted about five years, following my shift from silver salts to bits and bytes. Played the zoom game. And now I’ve returned to the fold. Prime time is back.

Breed is more than colour

After careful study (and a pinch of Gestalt), I declare that a four day weekend is superior to the two day variety. Pity that there won’t be another chance to test the hypothesis for many moons.

New ink for the thirsty printers

How long before the household LED bulb gets down into the reality zone, pricewise? I was checking out the stock at the local hardware emporium, and I’m not quite ready to replace my old incandescent (price point $1) with the newest of the new (price point $21). Just pointing out the silliness. Although that one bulb, down in the stairwell to the basement, does seem to burn out way faster than it should. Something to do with vibration. Every time I remember that famous bulb, burning in a barn for decades, I’m jealous.

Careful reconstruction

What do I write about today? Should I look back on what I did, or didn’t, or wanted to do? Oh, the possibilities.

Cleaning as treasure seeking

I’m preparing for the eventual cleaning of our basement, with the help of cable TV. I’ve been watching programs that deal with the riches that lie undiscovered. Antiques Roadshow and Canadian Pickers.  To a lesser degree, Storage Wars. Forget that stuff about Hoarders, though. That’s for the unsung few that are never required to clean house.

Old-style new appliances

I wonder if I can get a few webcams up and watching over the next few days. Because, as you’ve guessed, the new dog has come with a set of habits that are his own, and I’m too old to try guessing how he spent the day based on things that have changed around the house.
