Out here, in the country, things grow. I’d become familiar with weeds during my time in the city. Now, I’m seeing planned growth, on a large scale. I’m impressed. The field below was seeded, a week or two back. Now: green. Oats in the early stage. Soon, I’ll be able to “watch the wind”.

The warning light on the dashboard let me know that there was imminent danger. Without replacement, our whole way of life might be affected. Yes, the odour filter on our icebox was due for change.

The email caught me off guard. No weather updates from my site in over twelve hours. And then I remembered; a bit of thunder, in the distance, sometime after midnight. The glitch in the electricity wasn’t enough to reset my clock collection, but the little server I use to send my feed off to the weather site had gone offline.

In our drive towards “nutritional self-sufficiency”, I fear the idea is driving the effort. Sometime this morning, the availability of strawberries became an issue. I’m not sure what triggered it; we had jam in the fridge, along with yogurt. The local supermarket does a wonderful job of importing monster berries from somewhere. Perhaps it was the knowledge that the patch we used to have, before the great soil disturbance, was now a distant memory.

I may be quibbling over details here, but I’ve noticed something different from where I used to live. Has to do with debt. Over the past year, I’ve had to call people and remind them that they haven’t billed me for their services.

Some folks love to drive. When the request came in, this morning, to consider how long the grass was starting to be, I did the necessary. I pulled the great green beast out of storage in the garage. I filled the reservoir with a fresh purchase of supreme. I left the key in a visible location (in my hand). And then I sat back and watched.
