Untrusty sensor

posted in environment, Wx |

Out here, in the country, things grow. I’d become familiar with weeds during my time in the city. Now, I’m seeing planned growth, on a large scale. I’m impressed. The field below was seeded, a week or two back. Now: green. Oats in the early stage. Soon, I’ll be able to “watch the wind”.

Speaking of wind, someone noted that my weather station seemed to be displaying the current temperature, just not all the time. I watched, and sure enough, bars where there should be digits. What could it be? I ran through a couple of checklists, and cast an eye on the forum feed.

Turns out, my humidity/temperature sensor is no longer trusty. Can’t have that, so I looked online for a vendor. Took only a few minutes, and a new module shipped today from down in FL (where temperature and humidity obviously matter). Won’t get here for a week or so, and in the meantime I’ll rely on others to tell me why it feels so hot. And while I wait, I can plan the “operation”, to keep my real offline time to a minimum.

Last evening, in a scene reminiscent of a cartoon adventure, son #3 decided to capture a squirrel. Not as a pet; the goal was expulsion. Lacking a proper cage, he found a huge cake transport thingie in the cupboard. Strung up a trap, with a string release. I didn’t want to giggle. To my surprise, within a few minutes he had a prisoner. Noisy! After applying the bottom, the others drove down the road a couple of kilometers and released the seed pirate into new territory.

I’m not sure we’ll be able to tell if the creature finds its way back; they all look the same.
