Affirm your right to vote

In the Brave New World that this country models, take nothing for granted. Especially, not your democratic right to vote. This morning, in my effort to head off an administrative error, the family climbed in the car and drove for an hour, each way. The simplest option, if we wanted to maintain our right to vote. Someone, in an effort to avoid the near occasion of sin known as voter fraud raised the bar for identification. We wanted to be identified.

Not all created equals

Now that I’m too old to have a “comfort zone”, as in “the one I’m outside of”, my life is changing. I’m trying new things, although raw fish is still not on my to like list. Just take it for a given that I’m now willing to do new stuff.

Watching the spear-throwing competition

The chorus was back this evening. OK, a solo artist from the chorus. Maybe the group will perform a bit later, as the moon gets higher in the sky. And against all odds, I managed to record a few short bursts of song. The odds live here, and when silence is a virtue, they want to provide a counterpoint. Silly; they don’t even know the words.

A squeal against the howling

Please pardon the dog; he’s a bit stressed. Something about a full moon and the coyote chorus change him, into a squealing mass of nerves. Not sure if he wants us to challenge the locals for “top of the heap”, or try it himself. In any case, the wind has died, and the rest of us refuse to feed mosquitoes while he makes up his mind. Just move along.

Adding a uke to the studio

Today we did what had to be done. Instead of staying at home watching the new grass grow, we went to the city. Left in mid-morning, and arrived in time for some impressive rainfall. Based on the reports of others, about 65mm in an hour or so, which meant that we had to plan movements around showers.

But will it start?

Awoke, in the dark. Cold, compared to the last few days. Turns out that the temperature had dropped, and the windows and doors left open by others had let a stiff breeze pass from side to side in the house. Odd that such things even happen.

Out, spots!

Sitting, before dark, yawning. The dog did it again; rousted me at that magical hour before the hour before dawn. Took me for a walk up the road (which still had traffic) while he made sure that our area was free of predators. That was what he was doing, right?

Papers, please.

“Papers, please”. Used to be something we associated with life in an occupied country, from a war movie. This time around, it’s the rallying cry for the voting class. Anyone who is newly arrived in a place had best check with the election rules before assuming their right to vote will be respected.

Sunrise is the new sunset

My location means that sunrise is the new sunset. Getting up early isn’t the issue, and the weather console allows me to double check my intended hour. This morning, there was a mist hanging over the field below; gone inside of a quarter hour, leaving no trace.

A day of domestic bliss

Sleepy Saturday. The pancake breakfast didn’t last through a final edit of the family social calendar. Instead, the dog and I waved goodbye to a city-bound car, and settled in to a fun-filled day of domestic bliss.
