Some chemical C and a chase through the nation

Seems like a lifetime ago, that I read about the research presented by Linus Pauling. A little Vitamin C and you could live forever, or at least avoid the near occasions of death by head cold. Of course, the doctor didn’t live forever. And it turns out that the Vitamin C idea was a profit center for the citrus industry. When I was offered an alternative method of “getting my C” that didn’t involve peeling a pile of over-ripe fruit, I opted in. Forthwith, a tall glass of something that didn’t smell particularly Florida-fresh was at my place.

Out for a drive

Here, it’s winter time. When looking out the window isn’t enough. Today, I decided to go for a drive. During a storm.

As the sweater unravels

To better understand what is happening in the long march to impeachment, I may have a reasonable analogy to offer up. Consider the whole process from “deciding to run” through “eating cheeseburgers in bed”. Slow; akin to knitting a big sweater with needles and balls of yarn.

Once burned twice shy

The 2018 Golden Globes ceremony was on, last evening. A retrospective of the film and TV industry, along with some powerful social commentary. The only shadow, for me, was the “Oprah for President” whisper. Hey, haven’t you people just gone through the election of a media superstar? Do you think practice will improve the outcome?

Rally round, rounders

The little book seems to have made big ripples in the swamp. Now almost through what should be the quiet period of a news cycle, and the “he said… no, he didn’t” chorus and response continues. Especially on network TV. The Wolff book has made a lot of the presidential team out to be less than gold, so the golden man himself is shouting back. Keep the popcorn coming; we’re early in the movie-to-be.

Waiting for the next minor giggle

Witty responses abound on Twitter. When U-No-Hoo posted that he was a “stable genius”, earlier in the news cycle, someone retorted with  “so was Mister Ed”. Age bias apart (some of the younger ones in the crowd will miss the reference), it shows that we’re not out of the Great Satire Forest just yet.

Scandal, between the covers

Scandal! What’s not to love. Keeps the after-supper TV going, fuels a whole rack of particular magazines (People…), inspires the talking heads to continue talking on the radio. And what if there was a book? Released early to counter the possible lawsuits of the main protagonist? Today, an inside look at the first few months of life in the White House hit the shelves, and Washington is going crazy.

In the shadow of a storm

Since midnight, we’ve been in the middle of a developing #weatherbomb. Or as Shania put it, in a song, “That don’t impress me much”.

With all the comforts of home

You want to know what is better than spending the day in your car? Getting to your destination!

I’m home, after a fortnight away. Happily. I don’t have that lust to voyage that so many brag about. Perhaps it’s genetic. Anyhow, when the car pulled up in our driveway, and I went inside with the first load of luggage, I was a “happy camper”; no tent involved. We stayed in three different provinces, tasted food and cold temperatures in five. Managed to get where we wanted to be without major incidents of “lost in the woods”. Kept the feet dry.

Winding down the travel clock

A final rest day, in the big city. Even the dog senses that travel time starts at sunrise. We stayed inside, again; several short tours around the trees in the parking area followed by long periods of, well, rest.
