Since I should not let a day go by without learning something, I pay attention to the little things. Did you know that making aoili is a noisy affair? To be fair, I had never seen the term before today, and apparently it goes well with lobster. I did cook a lobster, but I already knew how that worked. Boil water, wait, remove a red bug and go on to other things.

On TV, right now, a stupid movie with Erik Estrada. I’m trying to explain to the next generation how he used to be a “CHiPs“, on every day due to the warped schedules of syndication. Thankfully, his acting style hasn’t evolved, so it didn’t require much extra information to put the idea of two guys, on motorcycles, on the highway in LA into the proper pigeon hole. Oh, the “good old days” weren’t always glorious.

The transit company has taken the next step. My bus stop now has multiple white signs, informing me that as of Monday next, I will be elsewhere (or feeling silly). The bus driver didn’t have any idea where elsewhere should be, so I’ll have to get out the maps and orienteer my way back to base. Should be fun, if the rain holds off.

I work in the public sector, for now. After three decades, I’ve finally figured out what sets us apart from the private sector. We don’t believe in savings. Got a dime? Spend it, before the end of the fiscal year. That’s it. Nothing else.

First, I noticed the lines and letters painted on the road surface in spray paint. G, for gas. H, for hydro. Then, the cones and barriers went up, narrowing the traffic flow. Oh, and no shelter from the rain, but that’s part of the life of a transit traveler.

I probably knew this, a long time ago. When you put out a lawn sprinkler, in high winds, you will get wet. Enjoy the sensation.

Some things in music (as in life) are a question of scale. Not scales; that’s for another time. Today, I was caught up in the question of the “largest instrument”.

Ever feel that things are harder than they should be? That time is taking its toll, an hour at a time? For a quick cure, watch that classic movie, The Longest Day. Puts things back in perspective. And as I said, around the three hour mark: “Based on current projections, the Allies may win the war“.

The overnight forecast includes showers. Rain and ‘shooting stars’. I know (from experience) that the two don’t mix, and so I’m going to stay in bed. If it’s really good (the star part), I’m sure someone will post on YouTube. Almost as good as being there.

He was “just funnin’ with me”, right? When the guy on the news presented his story, I felt a sharp twinge. Maybe life isn’t as easy as I thought. War? Famine? Drought? None of the above.
