Diving digitally?

posted in media |

Ever feel that things are harder than they should be? That time is taking its toll, an hour at a time? For a quick cure, watch that classic movie, The Longest Day. Puts things back in perspective. And as I said, around the three hour mark: “Based on current projections, the Allies may win the war“.

This morning, in a moment of cabin fever, we went out and bought another tent. My basement is a museum to nylon shelters. We buy the same model, whenever possible, and there are now spare parts for the spare parts. No duct tape patch to mar the morning view. Son #2 didn’t need the carefully repacked older model, but if the opportunity presents, he’ll get a memento of life by the beach.

Trying to find a power adapter for a gadget and the rumours of its availability far outweigh the possibility to purchase. Amazon won’t send one to Canada (what’s THAT all about) and my letter to the “rare parts department” won’t get an answer before the first of the next. I did find the right size of coaxial plug in one of those “will adapt everything” wall wart kits, but the current available is insufficient. If I can’t find a genuine, Made In China part, I’ll build one out of old power supply transformers and potting compound. That’s how you do it…

The news is carrying a story about the recovery of a digital camera from a shipwreck. My initial thought was “diving digitally?” Turns out that someone actually wrecked their boat, and the ordinary camera was inside. Recovered two year later, by divers, (you see the nuance), his pictures were still OK on the SD card. The camera; not so much.
