Signs of impending construction
First, I noticed the lines and letters painted on the road surface in spray paint. G, for gas. H, for hydro. Then, the cones and barriers went up, narrowing the traffic flow. Then the glass walls of my bus shelter disappeared. Today, the whole metal framework was missing, leaving some red plastic tape marked “Danger”, and an impending sense of doom. Oh, and no shelter from the rain, but that’s part of the life of a transit traveler.
Tomorrow, it can only get worse. Construction season is underway, and while the sun shines (and the rain falls), the infrastructure dollars WILL be spent. Winter is never far away. I imagine that the next four weeks will mean changes in my routine. Perhaps a return to base by another route. Or a chance to get home late(r). I can handle it. Really, I can. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
Today was a Brightsign day. That refers to a small electronic box that will feed cyclic messages to a wall display (TV without channels, for the rest of you). I get to set them up, and every one is an evolution; a polite way of saying that I have to figure out how it works, every time. Lots on online documentation that doesn’t jive with what I see happening.
And today’s rain means that I won’t be out “moving” a sprinkler after dark, unlike yesterday. That’s a good thing, because the temperature is down to single digits and my desire to live without shoes is uncomfortable.
