Bad latency and a new python

Busy evening. Since supper, I’ve tried wrstling a python and confronted the latency monster on my laptop. Not how I envisioned the evening.

Gold leaf appointments

I’m on the platform, waiting for the train. At least, that’s how it feels; waiting for visitors, and family, and unsure of what would happen if I simply went to sleep. On TV, a documentary on fishing in the Maggies; interesting, but hardly new material for me. I should return there, next summer.

Pedestrians bottlenecking (and rubbernecking)

There’s a new game in town. And in our house. GTA V. After watching for the last half hour or so, I still have no idea what the game objective might be. However, this is not a training film for driver ed.

Streamlining the pastry list

As the dog does wind sprints in the living room, complete with over-table leaps and tight corner turns, I realize that he is more athletic than me. More than I’ve ever been, including one summer in high school, Guess that goes under the heading “the nature of the beast”.

Dog fails as a food critic

The dog would never make it as a food critic. Everything I eat is “good” in his view of the world. This evening; canned beans and beef. He approved. I really should go out for groceries, but it’s dark and I’m lazy. Tomorrow evening.

Inflated dreams

Another assignment submitted. Not as good as I’d like, but it will face peer evaluation. Since none of us know what we’re doing, the received mark will probably even out. I’m unwilling to give more than I’m going to get, in this brave new world of the MOOC. Still, I did have to figure out what was wanted, and how to provide an approximation. That’s part of the learning process. I intend to use the software, after the dust has settled. Worth a lot, in that context.

Underwhelmed by the panorama

Finally got around to testing software on the set of photos I took last summer. To my surprise, even a 360 “in the round” picture doesn’t match standing there in the breeze. Technology. I’m going to post a simple panorama shot, just as a proof of concept.

The wonder of the Child ballads

I try to understand, but the whole concept fails me. How does running a bike race through the Old City translate into a two hour bus ride home, on the other side of town> Over an over again, this city score a giant FAIL when it comes to routing traffic around anything bigger than a stunned squirrel. When the QM II sailed into town, the fastest way around was on foot. When there’s a parade, traiffic is solwed, days in advance. forget anything that isn’t scheduled…

Considering life beyond the cubicle

Once again, the city plans to host a “major event”, and we all pay with time. There’s a cycle race being staged; tomorrow, I think. However, certain important streets were closed, in anticipation. And that’s what we did… anticipate getting to our destinations. An extra twenty minutes on the uphill stretch may not seem like much, but that was only part of the package. I arrived, fashionably late, at the office. I may not see a single famous cyclist, but my bus time has been used to assure his or her traffic-free passage through the capital. A peleton doesn’t count.

After an amazing race

I usually avoid reality TV, but the promise of a short jaunt around the Rock was enough to force me into exceptional territory. The CTV Amazing Race segment 109 was worth every minute. Here’s your link: Amazing Race.  And now back to real life, which is much cooler than reality.
