Inflated dreams

posted in economy |

Another assignment submitted. Not as good as I’d like, but it will face peer evaluation. Since none of us know what we’re doing, the received mark will probably even out. I’m unwilling to give more than I’m going to get, in this brave new world of the MOOC. Still, I did have to figure out what was wanted, and how to provide an approximation. That’s part of the learning process. I intend to use the software, after the dust has settled. Worth a lot, in that context.

Trying to decide if I would ever buy shoes online. Shirts, I can handle that. You can fake it fitting with some posture shift. Pants, probably. But if a shoe hurts, you can’t give up walking. Printing a size guide only works if the picture has a scale, otherwise you’re at the mercy of that “fit to page” algorithm that goes with a printer driver. In the old days, you could draw a line around the bare one on a piece of paper and send it along to the Eaton’s catalog office. Harder to do online.

This whole business about ostentatious religious garb is spiraling out of control. It’s not a law, yet. Just some poorly worded intentions by a minority government that wants to bring something to the fringe element.

In the world of inflated dreams, the cost of our national lottery ticket is jumping to $3. Proof that the inability to do math leaves you open to state-controlled robbery. One way to look at things is that the Loonie and Toonie were an easy sell. The (as yet uninvented) Troonie won’t be there, tempting a purchase of something less than nothing.
