With an hour to go before bedtime, I can declare this Hallowe’en as over and done. The pouring rain kept the monsters from the stoop, and the dog only had to use his deep and dangerous voice once. Imagine; a hot meal without interruption. A good hot meal, involving pork and chicken and potatoes with leeks. Better than bagged candy, any time (although my eyes are peeled in case we did buy treats0.

I don’t understand the price point of certain things. I mean, from head to toe, I’m grounded in my needs. Shoes are worth $60, for two of them; I prove it every season. My coat shouldn’t cost so much that I can’t afford to replace it when it suddenly goes missing. Tuques are not big ticket items. When I saw the next picture, today, I just didn’t understand. Even after clarification, I don’t.

One of my eyes attracts a lot more attention than the other. From strangers, mainly. Highly trained strangers. For the last few years, my only real contact with the medical world has been based on an evolving strategy of trying to maintain what (little) vision remains. I’ve been lasered. I’ve been “trabbed”. I’ve even learned to prepare a steady diet of chemical soup. Today, I received the promise of my very own DSAEK.

I left for work, in darkness, and I came very close to falling on a patch of black ice. Later, the flurries started, thickened and finally ceased. By the end of the work day, the only remaining evidence of our first day of winter was in areas of deep shadow. And with another 300 cm of white stuff “in view”, I’m already ready for the end of it. So much for my nordic sense.

Some of us think small. Days that are planned on the basis of what we did the day before. Long term plans that are carbon copies of what others have done, before us. We’re the ordinary folk. But, once in a while, the extraordinary thinkers are revealed, and it carries a degree of “scary”.

Season shift is gradual. Last week I noticed a trend. Yesterday, my coat liner was added to the morning mix. Today, the pool was closed. next week, a shovel will probably be an essential tool.

I enjoy good music. I enjoy a good book. When I can find a reason to combine the two, that’s just… good. And today, although neither the book nor the record album are new, I found myself immersed in the two. While on the bus. That’s also good.

Caught me off guard. The online course, I mean. Unlike the last few assignments, this time I had to write a short biographical profile of a famous composer. Rather grade school. Took me all of fifteen minutes to get my head around the who, what, when, where and why. I thank those compulsory book reports I had to produce, in real grade school.

The current government has spoken. “Categorically false” means whatever they want it to mean, and the members of the party believe. If that sounds similar to a religion, you have seized the message. I’ll try not to get stuck on the shenanigan channel. It’s hard. I’d rather make a batch of popcorn and stretch out in the La-Z-Boy®. Maybe tomorrow. Or the next day. This story isn’t going away any time soon.

Interesting day. In Ottawa, Big Mike has decided to talk about Big Steve (little honour among thieves, according to Psalms something or other). In the garden of the Apple, the new OS is out there, and I’ve installed my first copy without untoward injury. And my coffee machine switch came in the afternoon mail, installed in two minutes and now we’re back to regular espresso. Life is good.
