Segue to a new season
Season shift is gradual. Last week I noticed a trend. Yesterday, my coat liner was added to the morning mix. Today, the pool was closed. next week, a shovel will probably be an essential tool.
Getting the pool “put away” couldn’t wait. That pond will freeze, just like a real one, and then I’d have to put up “No Skating” notices, in two official languages. Easier to let the backwash run for several hours. A quick trip to the hardware store and a jug of pink antifreeze assured the sanctity of the ground drain, and my foam insert from last season was still useable. Stow the hoses, drain and store the “new this season” pump and my job was done. No more thought until next spring, unless the pool walls collapse during an ice storm. Nothing to do with skating.
And with fall ready to segue into winter, I watched the final season match for the Rouge et Or university football team. The “undefeated season” is something to aspire to, unless you play in the Constantin galaxy. His stars do it, over and over again. We (meaning the local fan base) are ready for the Vanier Cup, when it comes. And stays. I’m a believer. Today, the competition was strong (but not strong enough, etc.)
And in an act of “well, why not”, I reattached my SDR box to the external antenna. Lightning season is over, so the risk of a static Armageddon has passed. Time to tune things up and listen to the world. Took far too long to find that little adapter that fits between the feedline and the BNC socket on my tuner, but I hung in there. All is now well.
