Tread with care

We had really good club sandwiches for lunch. Not big news in a world context, but these sandwiches contained properly bacon (hence the name bacon, and not fryon), some BBQ chicken, fresh tomato from a local garden, mayo with olive oil… need I continue? The local restaurants aren’t going to match that sort of fare any time soon.

Surprised by the posted prices

Need proof that this is a “too hot for comfort” kind of summer: I went in the pool today. Voluntarily.

Anticipating the need to hydrate

It’s Tuesday. What should I fixate on for today?

My water bottle is back in my pack. After a winter (and spring) of not needing to hydrate during the long ride home, the warning is out. Hot weather, only hours away. When the sweat starts, I’ll be ready with some filtered tap water (the cooler is right outside my cubicle). Anywhere: at the bus stop, on the bus, during the six minute walk through the neighbourhood. Go ahead, Gaia. Hit me with your best shot!

Imagining a cheap substitute for the real thing.

Doing things, ourself, on a limited budget? Have you noticed that when the “real thing” isn’t available, you start to mentally substitute unrelated objects? Was your grandfather also a blacksmith?

FInding shelter in a glass hutch

In terms of architectural merit, or insulation factors, this little building may not seem like much:

I’m drawn, as a moth to a flame

If only I could live in the big city, for a day. It would have to be a particular day, and I’d want to revert to a normal lifestyle by the next morning, but a wish is allowed.

Breed is more than colour

After careful study (and a pinch of Gestalt), I declare that a four day weekend is superior to the two day variety. Pity that there won’t be another chance to test the hypothesis for many moons.

Cold? Stormy? Normal!

Might be getting older, but I’m not getting any brighter. This is Canada, and this is March. Those days of sunshine and snow melt were just an illusion. What magicians refer to as the “prestige” (I think).. The windchill this morning of -18C, and the knock down drag them take no prisoners snow blow down on the Island were just normal observations. Weather can’t be predicted…

Fresh fruit with benefits

I read, somewhere, that fresh fruits are good for me. If I coat the pieces with melted chocolate, does that distract from the nutritional value? Get back to me on that; I’m busily respecting the tradition of some long gone martyr, Valentine.

Downside of a too mild winter

Talking to someone about the weather (yes, it really does come up as a topic of conversation), and we drew parallels between “the good old days” and the current round of frostiness. Although my lawn is well protected, I can’t help but wonder about life in greener pastures.
