Imagining a cheap substitute for the real thing.
Doing things, ourself, on a limited budget? Have you noticed that when the “real thing” isn’t available, you start to mentally substitute unrelated objects? Was your grandfather also a blacksmith?
Right now, my project involves attaching a Morse key and paddles to a piece of stiff [I don’t know yet]. I started with the maintenance department at work, but their solution involved ordering a custom piece of Lucite from a firm that works from engineering drawings. Overkill and over budget.
Next up, the local business supply store. The only plausible purchase would bave been a clipboard. So “old school”, and I’d have to figure out where to use the surplus metal clip. Let’s move along.
At the local surplus store, I found a huge piece of Lucite. It might also have been safety glass. I couldn’t tell, so I decided to keep searching. Under a counter, I spotted a lovely art print, mounted on some sort of rigid backing material. Made it all the way to the cash register with that one… and got distracted by a pile of Lucite pieces, priced at $0.50 each. Forget art destruction, the solution is here AND affordable. Now to find the right saw for the job.
We’re back into hot weather, which means another restless night. Fans don’t lower the temperature. Yes, I’ve checked. The weekend is nigh, and all I have to do is stay alert for less than a day (more). I can do this. Camping seems like a great idea, right now. And those videos on YouTube from PEI Tourism didn’t distract (not much!)
