Tonight another American Idol will be presented to the world (as if it cared). Two hours of mixed entertainment, faintly reminiscent of the work done by Ed Sullivan. It should be noted that many of the guests this evening ALSO appeared on his program. Guess the demographic shift in favour of the Boomer is real.
There’s talent, and then there’s real talent. Among the dross, there was J-Lo. Judge not, lest ye be judged doesn’t apply. In a tie-in to serious literature, take note that she is 42. That is the answer.
And now, back to the extravaganza. The budget permits pulling out all the stops, but is this really the appropriate showcase for Neil Diamond, John Fogarty and Chaka Khan? Or a sloth, in the arms of Steven Tyler? Musical veterans, mixed with zoophily. Try to package that with a bit of bubble gum, if you dare. For the local interest item, there are no red squares in sight!
I’ve got to hang in here for the next half hour; the season long effort of votefortheworst.com requires that much loyalty. Even the dog wants to be outside (to be fair, the dog always wants to be outside). Some trivia: both Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez have double letter combinations in their names. Phillip squared is over the top, but that blame lies with his parents, rather than the management of AI.
Twenty more minutes? God, give me strength. This is a marathon, and not everything that glitters is gold. I envy the dog… By this time of night, young children should be safe in bed.
