When I saw my saw

Look what the postal people brought me, today. My own, personal chainsaw! Now, before you get all worried about my plans to clear the forest, note that I did NOT use the term “mechanical”. This is something purchased, late at night, from the web. It requires that I provide all of the required power, using my own two arms. Got a clearer image yet? Well, in order to cut off one of my two arms, I would have to be extraordinarily maladept. Think of a long section of links, with handles at each end. I will make a guess that any enthusiasm for forestry will disappear after the first few minutes.

New way to listen to tunes

Headed outside with the special brush, to spend some time with the special dog. At a rough calculation, he’s losing enough fur to keep all the neighbourhood squirrels in warm nests for the winter. Had to stop, because I fear we won’t recognize him (colour shift, toward the gray).

Local directions

Maybe this happens elsewhere, but I can only make reference to here. People give directions to a particular location, based on what is supposedly common knowledge. It might be, if you are from there and can boast about a long term relationship with the area.

Doing the LAN shuffle

One of my preferred appliances is getting cranky. With age? Unsure, because the quality control sticker is dated 2017. Despite our warped sense of temporality, under the cloud of a pandemic, that wasn’t as long ago as it seems. My Sodastream “dispenser”, it doesn’t actually dispense anything other than measured shots of CO2. But, that’s a required ability, here in a post-pop household.

Cobbled some connectors

Today, I moved my alternate power supply system a little closer to a step I like to consider as “useful”. Let’s face it; a battery (in its box) or a solar panel, without the required connectors, or a charger that still uses those awful jaw things that are best suited to welding… all fine in theory but hard to rationalize.

A local population explosion

Yesterday, I was in awe of the fox in the garden. This morning, they were three. No, my camera was not ready, but I suspect they’ll be back. Turns out that it takes a village to raise a fox litter; in this case, the mother was killed in a traffic accident. Two of the litter also suffered the same fate, so the three in hand are technically orphans. I hope they succeeded in the first semester of hunting school.

Done before the rain falls

Any time the BBQ gets put away before the rain begins, it qualifies as a success. And so here we are, with supper done and a quiet evening stretching ahead. Like most evenings, actually. Who knew that my life would become a series of quiet evenings?

Trying my router on its edge

Someone gave us some trendy food for supper: a “meal in a bag”, if you will. Unfortunately, not my “bag”. Knowing what will sit well in my stomach is perhaps one of my greatest accomplishments that comes from getting older. Moving along.

Hesitant to hole-punch

My common sense (yes, I have a little) keeps me from chasing storms. If I’m in the area, I’ll watch, but there is no way that I’m going to try and catch the noise. So, while we were out this evening, playing squirrel taxi, I did keep a keen eye on the sky above me. Good chance to admire clouds in very non-intuitive patterns.
