Local directions
Maybe this happens elsewhere, but I can only make reference to here. People give directions to a particular location, based on what is supposedly common knowledge. It might be, if you are from there and can boast about a long term relationship with the area.
A classic (local) reference involves the purple house. I still don’t understand why so many people used to turn there, but that’s life at the local level. Anyhow, I did find the house, using old images from Streetview, so it did exist.
Today, someone new to the area asked how to find a particular site. The first helpful answer mentioned going down the road until you came to the B&B. Off the dirt driveway, just in behind, the location would be there. The second person added that the B&B was no longer in business, but that once you parked, you would have no difficulty.
Yes, we do handle things particularly.
I do find myself mentally reviewing how a place used to be, but if I ever am asked for directions, please, strike me down with a dead tree and keep on going. And don’t reveal where you last saw me. Of course, if you follow the rules for giving directions, it won’t matter.
More work in the basement. As the wallboard goes up, hiding the new wall structures, it looks better and better. Wait until the paint dries! And the door!
Our coffee machine (our beloved coffee machine) is showing signs of advanced age. Today, the steam/hot water accessories gave up. Guess I should start preparing for the eventual need to replace. For the record, we have enjoyed its company over the last (less than) four years. The warranty period ended back in 2017.
