Doing the LAN shuffle
One of my preferred appliances is getting cranky. With age? Unsure, because the quality control sticker is dated 2017. Despite our warped sense of temporality, under the cloud of a pandemic, that wasn’t as long ago as it seems. My Sodastream “dispenser”, it doesn’t actually dispense anything other than measured shots of CO2. But, that’s a required ability, here in a post-pop household.
Anyhow, I poked and prodded at the plastic gearing, and things seem to be back in commission. Sadly, my level of confidence has eroded. Shot, if you must.
I did have other successes today. My imagined reworking of the household LAN is done, using three new pieces of cable. The good router has been re-sited, and field strength is now strong and steady. Better than ever, if I may brag. That doesn’t resolve the lamentable bandwidth (thanks, Bell!) It just means that my having to aim my iPad in the evening, simply to not lose connectivity, should be over. Meanwhile, the new SSD for the laptop is wending its way out to my area; it might allow me to get back to my regular siphoning of desired media files.
Evening temperatures are dropping into single digits. Frost? Soon. The garden received fewer transplants than in earlier years; there will be no need to sit and watch the peppers and tomatoes, should the mercury dive. Besides, the odds are in favour of the harvest being handled by wildlife. We aren’t diligent farmers, and our ability to last the winter on our own production is doubtful. Next year, when everything gets back to normal!
