A local population explosion

posted in environment, technology |

Yesterday, I was in awe of the fox in the garden. This morning, they were three. No, my camera was not ready, but I suspect they’ll be back. Turns out that it takes a village to raise a fox litter; in this case, the mother was killed in a traffic accident. Two of the litter also suffered the same fate, so the three in hand are technically orphans. I hope they succeeded in the first semester of hunting school.

We have an uneven cross section of the Island wildlife checklist. No skunks. No raccoons. The coyote population is unstable. But foxes? Behind buildings, all up and down the way.

In my mailbox, some more slow deliveries from China. I’m going to have to review orders to discover just how long the transit took. Had to be enough for me to forget the details, right? Little things: a patch cord for a transceiver. A volt-meter for a future project. Oh, and my prize from the Radio Caroline quiz. I now own a CD of music by the Rolling Stones. Epic! Oddly, I had never bought in to the Stones hype (“greatest band ever”) which saved me from devoting over large amounts of time and money to score show tickets. Now I can explore their effort, one track at a time.

And today, I ordered and submitted payment for a solar power generator. Delivery won’t occur until late in November, but I am ready for extended boon-docking… next year. Or a power outage that involves my neighbours.
