Sorting at the site

Hard beds and cold rooms remind me of an earlier time. To revisit the uncomfortable, at my age, and be expected to pay for the privilege… Sorry, but I’m moving along.

Social media and discretion

Saturday, and the Vanier Cup has been awarded. With one point more than the opposition, a crucial kick was knocked down in the final few minutes. Keep the game close and in your favour, and the trophy will follow. Until next season…

Hanging the light

In local news, the owner of a colossal media firm has purchased a hockey team and announced his intention to head up one of the major political parties. Somehow, I keep imagining a banner that reads “They shoot! He scores!” Since I’m not likely to either watch his team or vote for him, this counts as filler in my day.

The pieces are now available

Let my record show: I started early, and I watched for hours, but I never saw it (them) arrive. I did see daylight triumph over darkness. I did watch the sea respond to increasing wind levels. I did figure out which way was which.

Influenced choices

Proof that I’m easily entertained (or lethargic): the TV is tuned to a documentary on the life of pigeons. In summary, the difference between rollers and tumblers is still not clear. And I am older, by an hour.

Can you “nan” in a pan?

I shall not complain about how much snow fell. After seeing the reports from Buffalo, where better than 2 meters has fallen in 3 days, I know when someone else owns the bragging rights. Pity the poor dog that tries to find a place to play (or spray). Pity the people who own a shovel and not much else.

Evolving style

Strange climate moment. I awoke, suddenly; the gust of wind had me wondering if we’d just had a tiny tremor. By the time I went downstairs, the anemometer showed a misleading 0 (as in zero. Dead calm). Turns out that a heavy snowfall had frozen things temporarily, although another gust shook the mechanics enough that we were back into recording mode shortly after. A downtime of eleven hours, according to the stats page. Enough snow came down to break one shovel, which means that winter may be here for the next few months.

Shiny hoses

According to the various videos on safe clothes dryer installation (YouTube, You Rock!), there is a type of air ducting that is risky. As in, “hey, your house just burned down” risky. Imagine my surprise when I happened to be in the box store and discovered that the ONLY type of solution they sell looked just like the ducting the videos were so dunning about. Yes, I mentioned to the clerk that there was risk in every box. He wants to go and run his own tests… Won’t change the buying practices of a national chain, but he might save one house.

All the conveniences of home

Here in my comfortable chair, with a large screen of content in front of me (and a smaller tablet in one hand), I give thanks that I’m not richer. Imagine a home, controlled through state of the art domotics; leaving the chair would be so kuch lower on my Maslow list.

Streams of (in)security

From where I sit, few topics are better served through television documentaries than recent military history. As in, man with his machines. Going back to the Prudential weekly lessons of my childhood, and moving along, my knowledge of who fought who, where and when comes from TV. No answer of why, unfortunately.
