All the conveniences of home

posted in technology |

Here in my comfortable chair, with a large screen of content in front of me (and a smaller tablet in one hand), I give thanks that I’m not richer. Imagine a home, controlled through state of the art domotics; leaving the chair would be so kuch lower on my Maslow list.

Seriously, for anyone who giggles about “clap on clap off” devices, be aware. The future will be so much cooler! I just watched someone adjust the room temperatures throughout the house before lowering the motorized window shades and beginning a “telepresence session”. Akin to Skype, without the aggravation.

A lot of the gadgetry is just beyond my reach. Replace “ordinary” programmable thermostats (which felt very space age On a few years ago) with centralized control and infloor sensors. Plan the room lighting and add a few tweaks. Learn to exploit the voice recognition already available on most of my toys. In other words, think bigger. No need to start over; add convenience.

next month. For now, the goal is to get ready for winter. I washed my coat this afternoon, which did unbalance the washer from time to time, but worked out properly. Next up, trimming those insulated insoles (for the new boots) before the need is manifest. Preparation instead of response.

Trying to convince son #3 to “clean up his room”. For real. According to she who knows, we need to invite a realtor over, as an opening move in the chess match of selling this house. The better things look, the more likely a sale will be. Or something like that; this is uncharted territory.
