New kitchen tech

Back before the start of snow season, we decided to change our kitchen range. Just because we could, rather than one of those emergencies that leaves you eating cold sandwiches; it allowed us to weigh the available technologies (in a figurative sense) and decide what we wanted. In this part of the world, that comes down to three choices: gas, traditional electric or induction.

Deposition of a suit that might fit

Our legal system rests, in large part, on a simple premise. If I say one thing, and you say something diametrically opposite, then one of us is wrong. Up to a certain point, society accepts the air of argument that ensues. Beyond that point, the two parties appear in a court of their peers, both swear to tell the truth; one is shown to be incorrect and we apply penalties.

Gems from the Duffy Examination of Conscience

Just spotted a photo of the second house I ever visited. My grandparents, if that helps. Anyhow, the picture was in a Twitter feed, showing off the new scenery on the Island; election ick. I’m sure my grampie would never have allowed such things to be tacked onto the outside wall of his house, way back when.

A level above hentracks

I’m just too young to have had to deal with an inkwell. Or a pen with a nib that required constant care and attention. I’m sure that if my school had required me to adopt such a tool, my handwriting might have improved. No hentracking allowed. Anyhow, a short documentary, this morning, showed me one side of the page that I’ve missed.

Finally spotted a dropping writ

As a fan of the political process, I’m tingling all over. I just watched the writ dropping! Gravity being what it is (whatever it is), things moved from high to low rapidly. The Island will have a muddy season, whether or not there’s a melting of the snows.

Skunked by the imaginary hare

Maybe I’m a victim of folklore, or having forgotten to shop before the deadline. Whichever; the house was without any trace of holiday candy this morning. No oddly shaped rabbits made of chocolaty (not a spelling error). No coloured eggs filled with traces of marshmallow (and peanuts). Not even a slab of decorative toffee. Skunked, by the hare. Unless we hit the shops, tomorrow, this will go down in family history as the candy holiday that wasn’t.

Adapting to a local market

My food menu is entirely dependent on my local market. Probably a stock statement, no matter where you live. Anyhow, I went off to “hunt”, in anticipation of the holiday closure, and landed back with a huge ham. Size of a half-watermelon. Now I have to figure out if it still requires an oven session; if so, for how long, and with what spices. Adventure, by any measure.

Preparing to prepare food

I wonder how long a store needs to “get” more inventory? My quick trip to add LED bulbs to the pile of material for the new house led nowhere (sorry, but the only word that fit the situation rhymed with red, or bed, or fed…). I did find the replacement electrical switches I need here (and now), so it wasn’t a wasted outing.

Definitely closed at this address

Am I capable of self-restraint? For sure! I actually waited all week before driving over to see if we would continue to have a discount electronics store in the neighbourhood. It was only after the call came in, to pick up our loaner dog, that I finally went to see for myself.

Tiles in place

My parents and teachers put a great deal of effort into teaching me the value of patience. Just in case I decide to, for example, get a house built. Today, an email telling me that the basement tiles are lain. Remaining on the list: the downstairs bathroom. Maybe next week. I give a shrug and roll along.
