Quick, stop the door

Funny the things one worries about. This morning, I had this sudden mind view of throwing open the door and denting the new washing machine. The one I haven’t even hooked up yet. Unless… if I could find a way to restrain the path of the door… and with that, my quest began.

Robo commerce

It worked! I now no longer own a lawn mower. A quick ad, placed yesterday online and today a buyer. Willing to come by pick up the beast. The last time a mower left the yard that effortlessly, there was a thief involved. One less thing to think about.

A list of fixes

Given the success of the inaugural boat sale, I have decided to expand our offer. Right now, to the first interested party, I have an almost new electric lawnmower that I would let go for a paltry sum of money.  The lawn is still growing, but the concern will belong to others.

Sale ended

Let’s turn today into a tale of several boats. First of all, my role as an agent in the world of kayak sales was (mercifully) brief. We could have sold several boats… the sale to the first (oversized) client didn’t happen, leaving room for a second, more robust bid. The third caller had to find a sale elsewhere.

Newly appointed as the agent

I realize, as a taxpayer, that elected officials must make choices that are for the common good and within the ability of the common man to pay. However, right about now, I’d love to have more frequent garbage pickup. Or at least the right to trade in some of those simpler times when I didn’t have to put a bin out to the curb. Ours is held closed with a huge steel weight I found while mining in the basement (which is why more pickup would be appreciated).

Framing

Today, I purchased a roll of bubbles. The compulsion to “snap” each tiny chamber of rare air will have to come later, but for now I have a valuable resource. For the record, $25 allows me to take home 16 sq. m. Enough to cover the floor of a living room (I didn’t test the idea).

Six different sizes

Imagine the excitement! Consider the possibilities! Right now, in my living room, I have six different sizes of cardboard box; a range from somewhat small to somewhat large. At least a half dozen varieties of tape: duct, strapping, plastic, masking and a couple that I can’t name. All here, with scissors.

A not-so-important pop-up

The other evening, I received a pop-up note from installed software, letting me know that something extraordinary was taking place. Don’t be fooled by the computer, folks. The notice actually said that “Saturn was in opposition”. Didn’t mean much, given my blurry view of the night skies under the best of viewing conditions, but  I did turn to Google for more information.

Following the imaginary lines

I played the avoidance game for as long as possible. Waited for rain. Considered the intensity of each gust of wind. And, finally, headed for the basement. Just long enough to get a firm grip on the chassis, and drag the lawn mower up to the same level as the great out of doors.

In the face of rising prices

In a city where the civilized custom of a “gas price war” is unknown, the complacent consumer has little option. If the tank is empty, you pay. If the tank is half-empty, you pay. And if someone hints that the price is about to rise, you get out, fill to the last gurgle, and pay.
