A not-so-important pop-up

posted in environment |

The other evening, I received a pop-up note from installed software, letting me know that something extraordinary was taking place. Don’t be fooled by the computer, folks. The notice actually said that “Saturn was in opposition”. Didn’t mean much, given my blurry view of the night skies under the best of viewing conditions, but  I did turn to Google for more information.

Turns out, it just means that we (planet Earth) are in the road between the Sun and Saturn. And we’re much too small to eclipse whatever. Not to be misled, I headed for the back yard, where I could see that the streetlight across the street was MUCH brighter than any planet. For that alone, I’m willing to move where darkness means that; when I go outside to stare up, I’ll be dazzled by the sheer number of lights (none bright enough to let me read). But, I’ll be back to the way things were “in the good old days”. I’m now in my good old days, so we should be matched.

On the list of things to do today, I had to cook a small roast of beef for supper. Not much to do, other than popping things into the hot oven and waiting for time to pass. Patience, with good taste as the reward. Supper was good.

I tried “Periscope”, for the first time. Watched a couple of live mini-casts from the ferry heading into Grindstone. Novel.

TV had little to offer, other than an afternoon of documentaries dealing with the life and times of a German megalomaniac. The only new information was that his personal physician had a penchant for the prescription pad, coupled with a pharmacy better suited to a veterinary clinic. Won’t need to watch that as a rerun.
