Trying to be more accurate in analysis

Another distracting afternoon. Eye pain, mostly, but there’s little I can do about that. Taking an aspirin and going to bed isn’t the panacea it once was (although the going to be part still helps).

Bias in the broadcast

My timetable is out of sync with the broadcast world. The Olympic opening started while I was at work, but I never had any doubt that there would be retransmissions throughout the rest of the day. Here’s the catch. The American network (who hold the rights) are sending out their version of things. I can’t handle the bias. Not the sweaters, or the flags, or the vague patriotic references. I want to see things through apolitical eyes, and that is going to be more difficult that imagined. Maybe I’ll just imagine the ceremonies, and wait for the next time. As they say, “Four more years”.

Exposure to laicity

Oh, to have a magic wand! To zap all around me and fix the tales of woe. To grant a sense of common courtesy to so many (the guy who never stops or signals, in our neighbourhood, comes to mind). To convince the young and restless that it’s better to ‘live long and prosper”, without ever dressing in a uniform (not even one copied from an old TV series).

Legalize the purchase.. of elections

Proof that power corrupts: the latest legislation proposed by the party that currently owns the Hill. In a surprising misread of public sentiment, there is a proposal to legalize the purchasing of elections. Oh, it’s not worded that succinctly. There’s a compete bill that comes down to a simple phrase. No spending limits. On campaigning, to start with, but that’s the game. Once the money tap starts to flow, there’s no turning it off.

The games of “clear and present danger”

I have to stop underestimating the “need” for certain departments in our workplace. Specifically, the need for HR. In the last quarter, fully 10% of the office staff has (or will soon) change. That’s something; for some, who still don’t know the names of those in the building after six months among us, their job just got tougher. For the rest of us, we wonder what new job will end up on the corner of the cubicle.

Half of the time

Half time! The first 30 minutes (91 in real time) have not been good to the Broncos, what with just about everything going wrong that could. Right now, they’re down by (only) 22 points, and there’s a musical interlude with Bruno Mars to distract the country. Might take (a lot) more than that.

Idly watching Idol

Given the season, and the age, life has turned me into a spectator. I accept my role, and I have decided to profit from the variety available. This “phase”, like others, will pass.
