Extolling the science of deduction

Oh, the joys of summer, when money can melt away under the merciless sunshine. Seriously. If you happen to be rich enough to have some (as in, greater than one) of the new plastic currency in your wallet, keep things cool. Or accept that your cash might mash.

Lost in a world where colour choice matters

Perhaps if I’d paid more attention in grade school, to things like numbers and colours. No, that wouldn’t have done it either. I’d living through the anguish of choosing material shades, in windows and doors and shingles and floors. Coupled with the math skills needed to finance expensive ideas, the fun part is gone from the word “funny”.

Looking at, instead of through, the window

I’m easing into vacation slowly, this year. Instead of looking out the windows, or through the windows, I started the morning with a visit to a local factory showroom, where I could look at the windows. And doors. A door store.

A story told through history

My several and simple years of studying history in high school did not mark me. I can barely remember the when and the where (of my classes), other than by reference to how old I must have been, and in what town my parents lived. Your experience may have been like mine.

A scramble for the big save

Along with that wish for a dry summer, there was a certain responsibility; the roof needs new shingles. Today, the contract was signed, although no nails will be driven until after the middle of next month. Still, the urge to stare at other roof cladding as I walked down the street will now lessen. I hope.

Serving as the center of attention

Oh, my! Based on the TV program we’re watching, we are not prepared for a disaster. Those two  bags of rice aren’t going to be sufficient for whatever goes terribly wrong. On the distaff, I have the “enough stuff to read” covered. Glad to know I’m not completely out on a thin branch. Preppers, on NatGeoTV, proves that some people worry more than others. Somehow, I’m not dreaming of a year in the basement, but if I was, I’d have company.

A true flash and bang kind of show

The next time you watch fireworks, and wish that the show had lasted a little bit longer, shed a tear for the folks in San Diego. Due to a miscue, the eighteen minute spectacle was condensed… to a tidy but bright eighteen seconds. Or if you wish to have the auditory version – Poof!

Watching the light at the end of the tunnel

My fervent wish: that my co-workers realize that summer is here, and that they should start their vacations posthaste. As a corollary, imagine how much quieter things would be in my office.

A possible solution to my shingle problem

I guessed that my world of telephone support would “quiet down” once summer started. Error. First day of the new year, with two new lines to install. The patch panel numbers are wrong, and if I hadn’t unplugged someone who actually knew the why and the wherefore, I’d still be scratching my head. As well, four schools have new principals and I can’t fix their voicemail and ID tags, due to the “down” status of our server. And a school psychologist can’t log in. Too many problems for this time of year. I’m anxiously awaiting the (next) weekend.

Analyzed dipoles

With only a few hours to go in this long weekend, there was a need for motivated effort. Mowing the lawn had to be scratched, sadly. Too much accumulated moisture on the grass (from that rainshower earlier) to safely pass an electric mower. Not enough daylight to go anywhere. But there’s my antenna project…
