So rich, they don’t need (more) money

I think I should go to bed early. Actually, that’s been the feeling since dawn, but there was a work day in between. I’m laying the blame on my sore eye (the distracting one). And the heat, but that too shall pass.

And when he awoke, he wondered…

One day closer to the (long) weekend. Actually, even a short weekend would be welcome. I’ll accept what the calendar offers. The week is dragging right along, and today was a particularly noisy one; the youngsters were in from school, and sitting quietly wasn’t part of the plan. By going home time, my tinnitus was acting up.

Silly politicians

Somehow, the daily news is more fun than most fantasy literature. Here’s a few samples, from today.

At the GOP convention, two delegates had to be ejected after throwing food to the media. Sort of. The two exaamples of conservative decorum were throwing peanuts at a camerawoman from CNN, explaining that this was how they “feed the animals”. I read the headline on BBC, so it is making press outside of a small circle of friends.

Searching for a choice of synonyms

Finally! After a lifetime of Westerns (horseback opera), a new twist on a familiar theme. This evening, we watched Cowboys and Aliens. I know, everybody else saw it in a cinema last summer… not me. And now I’m glad that I saw it, albeit on a smaller screen. Not your grandfather’s cowboy flick. No need for Hollywood to go crazy. This one fills a niche in the average video library.

Why the AC is on the off

Certain things are listed on my to do list for this new phone. Figure out how long a battery will last on a charge (not all day). Learn how to create a custom ringtone (done: the phone now presents a rock and roll classic – the Bourée). Get used to checking for new messages. I missed those from yesterday and earlier this evening.

Finding the right size of pot

The dream required a bigger pot. And so, without delay, we spent the afternoon trying to find a pot that was big enough.

Rethinking your answer

Quiet time. The kind of day where I made one quick taxi run for son #3 and then spent the rest of the day avoiding effort. Good weather (the arrival of hurricane season down south seems to push fine times this way). OK, I admit it. Today was “find the apps” day for the new phone, and I really wasn’t interested in pulling weeds or chasing bugs or anything else.

Shades of a brave new world

It is impolite to laugh at the foibles of noobs. Just sayin’.

Actually, I was advised that it would be a good idea to warn the world. There’s now a cell phone with my face on it. Little matter that I had to ask expert advice on how to answer the dang thing. I mean, it rang, and I recognized that this was symbolic of “an invitation to talk loudly in the presence of others”. Except that with smart phones (in the hands of stupid users), the simple things like “respond” aren’t inborn. I did manage to turn off the power, and rotate the screen 90 degrees. Oh, and place a call. It was just the answer trick. Now I know… I think.

A found wall

There may be one just company left. When my tent pole broke, several weeks back, I grabbed the duct tape and got us through the night. Things held until it was time to go home, and that was that. This morning, I sent a quick email off to the Canadian distributor, enquiring about the cost of getting replacement parts. Within ninety seconds, a reply, inviting me to send them the broken pole. And I shall.

A close encounter with a phone or two

A moment of reflection, and curiosity. For some odd reason, the Playbook and the electronic picture frame have small tabs of duct tape covering visible LEDs and camera lenses. The ones here at home, I mean. Methinks that there may have been paranoid moments during the heat wave last month.
