Searching for a choice of synonyms

posted in education |

Finally! After a lifetime of Westerns (horseback opera), a new twist on a familiar theme. This evening, we watched Cowboys and Aliens. I know, everybody else saw it in a cinema last summer… not me. And now I’m glad that I saw it, albeit on a smaller screen. Not your grandfather’s cowboy flick. No need for Hollywood to go crazy. This one fills a niche in the average video library.

A rather uneventful day, other than trying to track down a source for an inexpensive thesaurus for son #1. Not the usual request. I used to own a paperback version, but it’s much more satisfying to drag the odd synonym out of memory (and recall the first book that presented a given term). Trivia for the literate.

South of here, the GOP has anointed their swordbearer. Meanwhile, Hurricane Isaac is bound for the Big Easy. This is where a real superhero would step into the path and deflect the storm. In the case of the GOP, nothing so dramatic. Mittens (and his kittens) have another goal in their view. Something about a white house (and no picket fence). Don’t hold your collective breath on this one.

Here’s one that makes me wonder. Will.i.am (think Black Eyed Peas) has just released a new song, and the presentation was beamed down from the latest rover on Mars. How did he manage that? Who knew who? I guess he can officially claim the longest path for a radio signal. Haven’t heard the song yet.

I’m sure that I will, Will.i.am.
