Solid hitting

CBC reminded me  (and I’m passing it along) that today marks the 25th anniversary of Canada love-hate affair with the loonie. My kids have never known the satisfaction of earning that first foldaway dollar bill; their life involves pockets that should be double lined. On second thought, no need; given the short resting time of a typical metallic seabird in a youthful lifestyle.

Cut and roll

Don’t panic. That warning of intense thunder storms with a possibility of hail and a tornado touchdown is just to wake you from your slumber. This is Canada, in June. We don’t get weather like that.

More escapism

All that was necessary was a short window of opportunity. And an open window. For the second day in a row, the dog escaped from our family gaol, making a leap to the kind of world a dog dreams of. A park, without a leash or a pack leader. I received the call at work, but realized that my seach resources were limited. And, with the help of a diligent neighbour, the furry rambler was back on home turf before I arrived.

Egression, or the Window Gambit

Another school year at an end, and a need to avoid cooking supper. Solution: off to a restaurant. Given the proposal of something something chicken, it came down to making a carefully weighed choice among the region’s standards. Benny, The Cage and Scores all lost the bid, what with Hubert offering free coleslaw and a decent choice of soups based on chicken. Like I said; according to a theme.

May have to go to another beach

Good music is timeless. I’m watching a retrospective on the career of CANO, and I really, really should go down in the basement and sort through the crates of vinyl.

Narrow bands of colour

Now that I’ve got solar power on my mind, I’ve been reading and collecting and trying to get ready for a sunny day. Have my first battery (a 7Ah gel cell) with room to expand, and now I have a controller. Actually, I already had one, but it was simply for voltage. Now my kit contains a small circuit board that allows me to trickle charge. Apparently that’s really important. And since I’m not afraid to melt a little solder from time to time, I ordered and received a kit from AcmeQRP. Today, I assembled it.

Observing the Field Day field

Late to bed and late to rise. Given my silly decision to stay up until past midnight, my morning came slowly. If not for the polite urging of the two pups, in need of my door opening talents, I might still be half awake.

Visit to the Ecocentre

Saturday in the suburbs. Or, how I visited the Ecocentre. When the garbage people ignored my properly piled plastic, I knew that extraordinary measures were in store. And so this morning, before coffee, I reclined the seats, spread the spread and loaded up for my next adventure.

Planning to draft some dipoles

Time to get back on track. It’s late. I’ve already missed my usual bedtime. No matter, because this is a long weekend. Got one now, and another one in seven days. One of the few advantages of living in a province where things have to be different.

Buried traces of tracks

The dog done did it, again. Out the window, screen mattering little; and since we didn’t see it happen, we had to depend on benevolent neighbours who convinced the hound that a chain (loaner) and a fresh pail of water were preferable to wanderlust. The proposal to clip and stitch (at the vet’s) is sounding better all the time.
