Observing the Field Day field

posted in ham radio, travel |

Late to bed and late to rise. Given my silly decision to stay up until past midnight, my morning came slowly. If not for the polite urging of the two pups, in need of my door opening talents, I might still be half awake.

But I did get up, and I did make it over to the neighbouring encampment before noon. Just. I arrived in the middle of their club barbecue, which gave me time to wander and check out the installations before being welcomed. The club had set up as Class 2a, complete with beams and generators (and a third position, just in case). The operation side was quiet; my own efforts at home would have fit right in.

Enough admiring the efforts of others. I used my map to beat a retreat (the campground was much larger than I had imagined). Back home, other important issues intervened. Seems that a can of fruit salad had burst (first time in my life for such a disaster), and there was sticky drool to be sponged from the food pantry. No big deal, but hardly a forecast event.

I wanted to watch a movie on the Playbook-TV combo, but my cable refused to cooperate. Back to eBay for another cheapie. No, I don’t intend to reform and go Monster! Instead, we watched the parade from Montreal. Dozens of huge figurines depicting the rich local history. Not enough marching bands. Better luck, next time.

And if you ask about my weekend, I’ll confirm that my radio station works, but that my antennas need some tuning. A familiar tale.
