Egression, or the Window Gambit

posted in pets |

Another school year at an end, and a need to avoid cooking supper. Solution: off to a restaurant. Given the proposal of something something chicken, it came down to making a carefully weighed choice among the region’s standards. Benny, The Cage and Scores all lost the bid, what with Hubert offering free coleslaw and a decent choice of soups based on chicken. Like I said; according to a theme.

And so we sat down and enjoyed our meal, until the phone vibrated. Our dog had been found, yet again, wandering aimlessly. Thanks to the ID tag, we had been located on his behalf, and we had no hesitation with the lucky finder attaching him to a chain in front of the house. After all, this wasn’t the first time (or the second).

But the question remained… how had he egressed? We’d closed windows and doors, locked the locks, done everything according to the standard. Under pressure to get home, we requested the cheque “without further ado” and got back up the hill.

We’d missed a window. The one that has three coaxial cables feeding through a bypass board, from the second storey. The dog had managed to avoid damaging anything expensive, pushed the access open and left in a leap of faith fit for Rin Tin Tin or the the Littlest Hobo.

And now comes the hard part. What do we do with a dog that won’t stay put? Do we have enough time and energy to continue this game? Stay tuned, while the judges decide on the outcome.
