Planning an exciting weekender

Let’s set the stage. It’s Friday night. I’ve got the house and the car to myself, with a whole tank of gas. Tax refunds are half in. And since I had a restless night, ending at 04h00, I’m too tired to do anything else except go to bed. Somehow, I thought that life as a grownup would be “funner”.

Lunacy not linked to the full moon

In the natural progression of things, each new season comes with its own symbol. Fall(ing) leaves, snow(y) winter, robins in spring and then, summer.

Free doesn’t always mean better

I’m no longer sure that my government has my best interests at heart. Speaking vicariously, of course. I shouldn’t pay attention to declining services, at least until I need them. But today’s story on the CBC website gives me pause.

Things I’ve recently learned

What did you learn today? I picked up all sorts of trivial knowledge, and will now try to process the factoids into a format that is meaningful to me. It’s supposed to assure retention.

It takes years to become a real star

Not much occasion to make stuff (electronically) these days. After all, you can buy most things, already assembled. However, I indulged myself last evening and this morning, and I now have a small QRP antenna tuner. The choice was based on my usual research, and after reading the reviews on eHam.net, I chose to go with the kitted version of the Emtech ZM-2 ATU.

All I want is a crappy crappie pole

Maybe it’s my “not from here” accent, or just the fact that I’m asking for unusual objects, but I don’t always obtain success when I go shopping in the city. More research is needed.

Penny rich or penny poor

A Canadian museum is richer today. By one penny: the last coin has been struck, and collected, and now it will find its way into the permanent collection of “to be announced”. Watch for copycats on this one, because I know that there are a few more copies out there. I have some, in fact. In jars, in drawers, under furniture. In fact, like everyone else, I have too many. Penny rich / penny poor.

Real people in imaginary places

I’d like to draw your attention to something. On TV, there are more real people than before. Especially in the commercials.

They don’t build ’em like they used to

Among the things I learned today

  • Money doesn’t grow on trees. Especially new plastic money
  • Bears may sh*t in the woods, but dogs do it in the house
  • New houses burn faster than old ones.
