They don’t build ’em like they used to
Among the things I learned today
- Money doesn’t grow on trees. Especially new plastic money
- Bears may sh*t in the woods, but dogs do it in the house
- New houses burn faster than old ones.
I understand the first case, I accept the second as part of living with a faintly wild animal and the third has me worried. Seems that trees don’t grow as big as they used to. Nothing to do with global warming, and everything to do with case #1. The building supply industry no longer wants to wait for the size of timber used in the good old days. Any replacement for, say, an old lighthouse would be made with skinny wood glued into submission.
Ditto for houses, and according to a story on CBC, the floor of your house might collapse before the firefighter gets inside (if the firefighter will even accept the risk of going for a walkabout in a burning building). The suggestion that a finished basement ceiling is a valuable counter to flame damage has me thinking. Maybe my next house will have more drywall than I had first planned.
The Habs got a new GM today. A hockey player by trade. Hey, can’t be any worse than it has been. I’m not much of a fan of the pro play, but there are traditions that must be respected. The Cup belongs in Montreal. I know this. So do you.
Went out and bought a rake. Not sure why. Guess I’m hoping that son #3 will get bored. I’ll give him some subliminal suggestions about how exercise is good for him.
