Real people in imaginary places

posted in media |

I’d like to draw your attention to something. On TV, there are more real people than before. Especially in the commercials.

Of course, my observation is based on judicious use of Google and Facebook. Go ahead; try it for yourself. Watch an ad. Note the person you believe to be genuine, and ask Google “Who is that?” Then, take your response and trip on over to Facebook. See, I told you.

Some examples: the red haired girl in the Wendy’s commercial. Not THE red haired girl. The other one. Check with Google and the Face. Told you. And she’s not even genetically endowed with the elusive, recessive gene. Almost fraudulent.

Another one? OK, how about Flo from the insurance commercials. Now, Flo isn’t her real name, but she’s out there. Famous enough to rate a Wiki entry…. and a page on the Face… and a fake entry.

Let’s go for another one. The dog in the Cesar food commercial. OK, perhaps not a real person, but  a real breed. I rest my case.

Speaking of Facebook, their IPO took place today, and the shares are going to run $28 to $35. Which means dumptrucks full of cash. Enough to purchase that Scream painting that was sold yesterday, as a geegaw for the front lobby. Now, this balloon could explode, but it is amazing to notice how “the market” can turn nothing into something. One of the wonders of our age.

Had some more tisane this evening. Tasty, but methinks I prefer coffee. My coffee. No more until tomorrow, though.
