Seeking some effective, but generic, syrup

For those in retail, knowing what your competition is up to is primordial. For the consumer, figuring out what comprises competition is very important difficult. A case in point.

When a cough is not a cold

Channel the stress. That’s my way of handling this very important week in the world of AI9. The countdown to the final 24 is too big to be left to the competitors. Next time around, I’ll help with the Olympics.

Perhaps we’ll never officially meet

Funny thing about the footprints we leave, here on the Web. The traces aren’t just the ones highlighted by running your name through Google. This afternoon, while reading someone else’s blog, I spotted a breadcrumb left by someone else, who had arrived there from here. I’m not alone in the world!

Blame it on the user

One more reason to avoid the iPod; the frustration level engendered by iTunes software. While I go merrily along with my little MP3 player, loading and unloading music with aplomb, son #2 is working on a personal version of apoplexy. Every time he tries to put order in his musical life, iTunes gets all higgledy-piggledy and then shuts down. When you hear someone swearing that he’ll forego changes to the soundtrack of his life, the state of the nation is clear. In passing, I’ve suggested that he seek a solution involving Linux.

And around they go, except in the presence of potholes

Perhaps the commentators on our Olympic channel are taking the Canadian thing too seriously. After an upsetting win by the Women’s Hockey team over Slovakia, the idea was floated that perhaps there should be a “mercy rule.”

Retune the weekly menu

I’m caught in a time of adjustment, and I need a great plan for a bag of bell peppers.

As the kids get older, their schedules are starting to impinge on family routine. Son #3 put it eloquently, as he headed out the door. “I’ve got a life now”. No matter that within the half-hour, he was on the phone seeking a Dad-taxi, since the calculation of city but times had left him standing in limbo for at least one hour.

Let the Games begin, if they must

Three little words: Citius, Altius, Fortius

For public purposes, an invitation to play nicely with others. In private, an admonition that only superlatives matter. Once again, the Games are upon us. Seventeen days; enough time for spring to fully arrive on the Left Coast. I’m watching the Opening Ceremony. Have been for hours. It takes a long time to welcome all the neighbours over for a play date.

Issues with updates that break things

The first time that Windows Updates broke things, I shook my head and remembered that accidents happen. The second time that things took a turn for the worse, I used the Microsoft version of time travel and reverted to an earlier point in time. I don’t need a third time. As the company that doesn’t sell doors gets ready to catch those pesky pirates with yet another round of software stumble-blocks, I’m worried that actually purchasing legal software wasn’t the best choice.

Singing in committee

Some things just don’t fit. Decisions made by committee. Ballroom dancing in a trio. American Idol in a group. Tonight, like each preceding year, showed just how painful trying to fit individual (large) egos into a happy, harmonious amalgam can be for all involved.

Oh say can you see (my driveway)?

Transportation news kept me on the edge of my chair all afternoon. Canadian transportation news; how often is that newsworthy?
