Retune the weekly menu

posted in food |

I’m caught in a time of adjustment, and I need a great plan for a bag of bell peppers.

As the kids get older, their schedules are starting to impinge on family routine. Son #3 put it eloquently, as he headed out the door. “I’ve got a life now”. No matter that within the half-hour, he was on the phone seeking a Dad-taxi, since the calculation of city but times had left him standing in limbo for at least one hour.

It’s good to get out of the house for those rescue moments. An excuse to stop by the local market and pick up some bread and comfort foods. When meal preparation goes by the way, the first foodstuff to disappear is sliced bread. Even choosing what to bring home has evolved; along with bread there is a new stock of Jos Louis (real ones, not the cheaper generic version), some salt and vinegar chips and a bag of brownies. As  I said, comfort foods.

Here we are: the second Carnaval parade goes this evening, and there is a regular crowd of short track ice skaters on the designated channels. Instead, we opted to review several episodes of “Glee”, available in my version of TiVo. An easier choice than the one we’d have to make up at the video club.

But  I still need to find the perfect use for my bell peppers. Waste not, want not. Probably have to wait until tomorrow to get the rest of the ingredient list, since I can’t think of a single menu that requires “just” my bag of green hollow forms.
