No congestion

The last day before the Big Holiday. Had to get out and do some last minute shopping (to be fair, the ONLY shopping on my list). To my surprise, no congestion. Anywheres. In, around, out; all on my list found and purchased. Where is the stress in that?

Less than best travel choices

Obligations, particularly those of a family variety, see me lose my common sense. Travel is best done without deadlines. Forcing it into the day before a major holiday, in an ice storm followed by a snow storm? Madness.

City sidewalks, cold and uncomfortable

Cold outside. Notwithstanding the lack of serious windchill, this is the first time I’ve seen the dog dancing. Serious paw discomfort on the bare city sidewalks; he clued in and tried to stay in the snow, because, you know, cold. I didn’t remove my shoes in a show of solidarity, because, you know, human wisdom.

Short day, long day

With the packing of the car completed, we bid farewell to Halifax. Getting out of the city is less complicated than getting in; makes little sense, but the GPS seemed to have a working strategy. Fun to watch the inbound traffic, when you aren’t “involved”.

Good news for my eye

One advantage to choosing a hotel close to our destination was that we could leave the car, parked and guarded by the dog. We simply walked several blocks, managing to avoid the near-death experience of black ice. Once inside the health complex, I played with their self-registration kiosk, and accepted that my “other province” status merited an interview with a real human attendant.

Park and breathe

I’m probably too old for a steady routine. Today was anything but. I’m away from home; over to the other side to meet with another eye doctor. Getting there requires a concerted effort.

A battle of fingertips

Just last year, I spent an afternoon in a battle of fingertips with a particularly recalcitrant bicycle tire. Told myself that I should get into the city and find a second rim, so that this wouldn’t be a recurring theme in my life (cursing at a rubber ring).

Tracking that slow boat from China

The temperature peaked at 22.4C, this afternoon. I’m under an obligation to note such things. As well, there are tomatoes growing on the vines in the garden bed, and I have more than my share of houseflies, clustered on the ceiling. That’s another story, without a proper ending (yet). My swatter can only get a few, each time, before the others swarm indecisively.

A closer look at their rig

The last our breakfast meets with the last of the summer folks. Some people need to winter in places like FL and TX; this was our chance to wish them a warm season with no more hurricanes. Discussion turned to mining techniques and some thoughts about RV life. I have experience with neither, so my interventions were limited.

Wander under a harvest moon

The small campfire, over by the far corner of the lawn, wasn’t enough. Sure, this might be one of the last evenings of the season; not sufficient. With a full harvest moon, temperate winds (17C) and a “full tank of gas” as the dog likes to say, it was time to wander.
